Do I need a referral? No referral is necessary.

Are your services covered? Our services are not covered by OHIP. However, most extended health insurance companies DO cover dietitian services. Check with your provider today. If you check your benefits plan and do not see dietitian services covered, ask your employer! The majority of insurance providers will offer dietitian services as a benefit, but it's up to your employer to select the service as a reimbursable benefit. After payment for a service is processed, a receipt will be issued to you, which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement (if applicable) or keep in your records for medical expense tax credits.

What can I expect from a virtual session? There is something to be said about meeting face-to-face in-person, and this is something Intuition Nutrition hopes to provide as an option one day, however, virtual appointments offer some fantastic benefits as well: - You don't have to leave your house! - You have access to your kitchen pantry, fridge and cupboards, which provides a unique opportunity for you to ask questions about your favourite products and recipes while having them right at your fingertips. - No searching for parking, no paying for parking. - You get to decide on your session environment and customize it the way you'd like. - More privacy. No need to wait in a communal waiting room. - Not feeling like being on camera? No problem. Virtual sessions can also be done over the phone. Our virtual sessions are relaxed, cozy, and most importantly, focused on you and your needs. Feel free to make a hot drink and get comfortable.

What's the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist? Our services are provided by Registered Dietitians (Jenna Zaika, RD & Jessica Scott, RD) who are registered with the College of Dietitians of Ontario. In Canada, Registered Dietitian (RD) is a protected title. Only those who are registered with a regulatory body can call themselves a dietitian. Dietitians complete an undergraduate degree in science from an accredited university followed by comprehensive post-graduate practical training and then must pass the Canadian Dietetics Registration Exam (CDRE) prior to being eligible to register with the provincial regulatory body. The term "nutritionist" can be used by anyone in Ontario, with or without any formal nutrition education or training. You can learn more here: Dietitians of Canada

What is Intuitive Eating?Intuitive Eating is learning to trust your body to guide food choices. It's eating when you're hungry and stopping when you're full. It's using internal cues (such as hunger and fullness cues) vs. external cues (such as diet plans, calorie recommendations, weight goal) to guide your eating habits. It's removing "good" and "bad" food labels. It's giving yourself permission to eat as much as you want, whenever you want. It's paying attention to how you FEEL before, during and after eating. There are 10 Principles of Intuitive Eating, which we use as the foundation of our approach to nutrition counselling: Reject the diet mentality Honour your hunger Make peace with food Challenge the food police Discover the satisfaction factor Feel your fullness Cope with your emotions with kindness Respect your body Movement - feel the difference Honour your health - gentle nutrition The Principles of Intuitive Eating were developed by Evelyn Tribole, MS, RDN, CEDRD-S and Elyse Resch, MS, RDN, CEDS-S. Will you prescribe me a meal plan?NO. Don't worry! Just because we won't "prescribe" or dictate a certain meal plan for you to follow, we promise to still share our favourite recipes with you and come up with some delicious meal and snack ideas together if this is something you're looking for. Meal plans are rigid and do not account for so many factors that influence our food choices (i.e. our mood, food security, personal preferences, cravings, culture, stress level, the list goes on...). Giving you a prescriptive meal plan would be creating "food rules" and we are not about that here. What we are about is promoting FOOD FREEDOM! We believe all foods fit (unless there is a personal or medical reason why certain ones wouldn't). Our approach does not include food restriction, counting calories, tracking macros, or weighing yourself. We hope that you leave our sessions together feeling inspired and refreshed - with some new nourishing recipe ideas and answers to all of your nutrition questions.

Will you ask me for my weight?Absolutely not. We use a Health at Every Size® approach, which shifts the focus away from conversations about weight and on to health, regardless of shape or size. Your weight is simply a measure of your relationship with gravity. It tells us nothing about your self-worth. At Intuition Nutrition, we use a WEIGHT-INCLUSIVE approach to care. Simply put, this means we focus on HEALTH, rather than the number on the scale. We recognize that there are SO many factors that influence our health – genetics, age, behaviours, support systems in place (or lack thereof), environmental influences, food security, housing and community supports, mental health, relationship with food, access to medical care, financial security, social support, job security, the list goes on… It is not a simple equation. This is one of the reasons why we use an INTUITIVE EATING approach with clients. Intuitive Eating involves slowing down, listening to your body, savouring the flavour and being present – both in eating, and in life. You can read more about Intuitive Eating by checking out a previous FAQ.

Can you help me with my chronic disease?Yes! We can support individuals living with a variety of chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and high cholesterol.

Do you work with kids and parents/caregivers?Yes! We welcome prenatal clients, parents/caregivers, and kids. I (Jenna) am a mom of two and spend a lot of my time making a million snacks (who can relate?), looking up new recipes, and enhancing my knowledge of pediatric nutrition. I am a firm believer of the importance of raising intuitive eaters. I find it incredibly rewarding to work with parents and caregivers who are eager to learn how to bring intuitive eating practices into their homes.
